ACCESS WILD ALASKA

WATER TAXI SERVICE

The wilds of western Baranof Island, and the countless smaller islands of this outer coast wonderland, offer amazing recreational opportunities.  Within a couple hours running time of Sitka, there are over a dozen Forest Service cabins and shelters available for public use.  Several are situated in stunningly beautiful coves, right above the tide line.  There are also remote hiking trails, such as the trail to the summit of Mt Edgecumbe or across Kruzof Island to spectacular outer coast beaches.  Another popular destination is Goddard Hot Springs, about 17-miles south of Sitka.  We know the entire area very well, and we welcome the opportunity to help you design the perfect day trip or multi-day sea kayak & camping expedition.

Our Boat & Captain
Our boat, the Peregrine, has been specially designed for providing access to wild places.  At 30-feet long and made from marine-grade, welded aluminum, she is big enough to provide a safe, comfortable ride in the more exposed waters found along the west coast of Baranof Island, but still small and nimble enough to explore the area’s countless shallow passages and coves.

Accommodations aboard the Peregrine include a spacious, heated cabin, comfortable seating for up to 6-passengers, and wrap-around windows.  She is specially outfitted to transport kayaks or mountain bikes, plus enough gear and provisions to do a multi-week expedition.  This purpose-built vessel is also equipped with a bow door & ramp to allow easy beach access.

Captain John has been operating sightseeing cruises and marine transportation in Alaska for over 35-years.  In addition to being an expert mariner, he enthusiastically shares his knowledge of the history, ecology and wildlife of the area with all who ride with him.  And with John, there is no such thing as “just transportation”.  Every trip – even a short water taxi run across the Sound – is an opportunity to explore with new friends and celebrate the beauty of Alaska’s wild coast.

Scheduling & Rates
We operate our marine transport service year-around, seven days per week.  Departure and pick-up times are set according to the preferences of each party, with guidance on tide and weather considerations provided by Captain John.  Our rates are based on a sliding scale that factors the round-trip running distance required and the number of passengers in your party.  For group sizes larger than 6-persons we can arrange for consecutive runs or a second vessel.  Please email or call to receive a price quote specific to your itinerary and group size.
